Valeria Ramirez
“Being involved and helping others is part of who I am. I always saw myself being involved in college, but thanks to the community service class (Com S 1) I enrolled in last year, I’m now serving as an Ambassador and moving forward.”
Valeria Ramirez is a junior majoring in Communications. While in high school in her hometown of Wasco, California, Valeria was involved in community service activities from fundraisers for local nonprofit agencies to area clean-up days. Since attending Fresno State, Valeria has enrolled in a service-learning course where she volunteered in a Headstart pre-school classroom, she served on the Kid’s Day planning committee, and for two years she participated in the Alternative Spring Break program. Valeria attended the Continuums of Service conference in Portland, Oregon in 2010 in 2011 presented at the conference in San Diego, CA. She served as a Richter Center Ambassador during the 2009-2010 academic year. Currently, Valeria is enrolled in the COM S 101 service-learning course and is a member of the 2011-2012 Richter Center Ambassador team. She is also an EOP Peer Mentor. As an EOP Peer Mentor she helps guide freshman through their first year in college and advises sophomores to continue on the right path. Valeria credits her service-learning opportunities for the skills and confidence to be an EOP Peer Mentor. She feels that with her service-learning opportunities and her current EOP Peer Mentor position she will be able to provide better service to her fellow Fresno State students.
