DAVID BARRERA is a senior majoring in Spanish. He plans on obtaining a teaching credential and teaching in his hometown of Salinas. A couple of years ago, Salinas was ranked as the 2nd most uneducated city in America. Additionally the town has been negatively impacted by gang activity. David hopes to positively impact the lives of Salinas’ youth by encouraging them to serve. This is David’s second year as a Richter Center Ambassador. His passion for service grew during his sophomore year when he served as a Health Peer Ambassador of Wellness. His role was to promote the wellbeing of students by creating awareness of drug and alcohol abuse among college students. This year, David serves as Fundraising Chair for Trabajadores de la Raza and Academic Chair for Nu Alpha Kappa Fraternity, Inc.  Through the Richter Center Ambassador program, David wants to encourage and motivate students to serve in their community by informing them of how important service can be to the community and themselves.

Ready posts by David.
